A tourist in his hometown...

A month ago I received a text from evil Rogers about Apple's product recall for all 3G power owners, and today I got my DHL package in the mail.

I was surprised to see the size of the packaging, as Apple's retail products typically use minimal packaging. The ultracompact adapter is less than 5x3x3cm, but the box it came in (photo taken from my iPhone, uploaded via Evernote) 25x15x9cm. A little excessive, don't you think?

How big a mess is this recall? Unofficial conservative napkin math:
10 million iPhone 3G's X $1 cost for new adapter (they probably got them from their China suppliers free, but lets call it overhead. Retail is $29) X $10 to ship (couriered to my door via DHL from Elk Grove, CA) for a total cost of $100,000,000.

On top of that, customers must ship the faulty part back, or else "Apple will have the right to charge your credit card a non-return fee". There is suppose to be a return label, but I don't see it. And since I bought my iPhone new from Rogers, I'm going to see what happens if I don't return it. 2 chargers is better than 1.

Update 10/21: A pretty birdie unpeeled the DHL label that covered the "Lift Here" EZ return label. But I still won't return it.

Gizmodo also blogged about this "anti-greeness" on Oct 26 and got some negative comments for their efforts. (Note: Mine didn't ship from Shanghai. Seems strange theirs did.)

not sure if this is the right area...

regarding apple usb adapter

sent me wrong part,

called again to apple tech support

a trick to get through the msgs if it's still broken is just don't answer and eventually u will get a human.

and the tech confirmed that if they didn't take your credit card info, they have no way of billing you. So I too do not have to return them. So I will have 4 and 1 wrong part that I could plug in a power cord if I can get it in the plugin...much like an iron/radio/hand mixer type plugin.

Then I will 5!

Cheers...

Oh on another note..EVIL ROGERS is EVIL!!!

THEY took my 6 gig plan off by mistake (theirs) and have zero way to put it back on...they gave me the 1 gig plan for the same price with some other stuff I don't want. I have tried manyx100000 times to fix this but on deaf ears. They claim they cannot give it to me. They just say SORRY!

I HATE ROGERS AND IF I COULD HAVE GOT THE IPHONE ANY OTHER WAY I WOULD HAVE. The second a real competitor comes along even at a higher price, I will switch.

If there is ever an EVIL COMPANY, it's ROGERS!!!!

IT'S Too bad that when the compaint website was created about rogers to give the petition for the unfair data plans, was purchased, it lost it's flair. Along with us Canadians who thought that the 6 gig plan was good enough. We really should have stood our ground and got the UNLIMITED!!!

Soooorry for the long rant...
